Kyle's First 24 hour shift

Although Kyle probably won't appreciate me sharing his story, I'm going to do it anyways :)
Wednesday morning he got up at 530 and got all ready for his first shift at the Sandy Fire Dept. He hadn't looked out the window to see that it had snowed a couple inches so when he went outside he was kind of in a hurry. He got there bearly on time and as he was walking up to the door, another fireman met up with him and they started talking. The fireman that worked there was telling him that by the end of the day, he will probably wish he hadn't come at all.

They were holding a funeral service for one of the Captains that passed away. Kyle had no idea. So they hop in the truck and head to the service. He didn't think to bring his jacket because he figured it would be inside, and everyone else was in their "blues" and he didn't want to look sloppy. (Keep in mind that he has a cold this whole time) Long story short, the dept. ended up leaving him there so he had to hitch a ride with another dept. to the cemetery, and to keep that from happening again, he kept close to them. When they all lined up, he followed and suddenly everyone salutes and they walk down the line with the coffin. So that was awkward. Haha

They were all starving afterwards (So he was starving, sick, and freezing ... and oblivious.) They decided to go out but they got a call so they had to go there first. When they finally got to grab some dinner, he said it started to get better. He could finally talk to them and get to know some of them.

They got back to the station and Kyle, being a deep sleeper, was nervous that if he fell asleep being so exhausted, that if they got a call he wouldn't hear it. So he left his uniform and boots on with the light on and the door open. Next thing he knows, he's woken up by the Captain telling him that he missed a call. Well he was bummed and couldn't have that happen again so he sat in the kitchen corner with a little light on the rest of the night.

After all that, he went back today. So kudos to him! I can almost promise you I would have given up right then and never gone back. Haha I'm sure it's not very funny for him now, but it was a great story for all of us :)
