Rocky's first surgery

June 24, 2010 sweet little Rocky had his first, of many, surgery. Keep in mind, we called the little ball on his nose his "heffalump" (which is actually his gums and 2 front teeth).  This first surgery was just in preparation for the next one. The goal was to center and pull in the heffalump, so for the second surgery, they wouldn't have to pull and stretch so much in order to get it inside and close the gap. Don't worry, it will make more sense once I post pictures :). So his first surgery was very minor-took about 20 minutes, but stayed at Primary's for about 3 hours after.
This surgery was the hardest for me. He looked SO different! His cry was a lot different too. It was so hard for me, I couldn't even hold him at first. I wanted to, but I was - I guess the right word is - scared.
How they do it: the inserted "hooks" into his heffalump and connected one end of rubber bands to that, and the other ends to his prosthesis palate.

 Soooo swollen and sore :(

That pink thing in his mouth is his prosthesis palate, and the white-ish thing to the right of his heffalump is one of the rubber bands.

He had to wear arm restraints so he didn't bug it and pull on it. They are probably the worst part!
